CDC just release a new report on HIV infections, and I thought you would like to hear the highlights.
Most of it was basically what they and other health organizations have been telling us for years, that homosexual behavior drastically increases the risk of AIDS/HIV infection.
Men who have sex with men (MSM) are at increased risk for infection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). In 2006, 57% of new HIV infections in the United States occurred among MSM. Of those who were infected, 44% were unaware of their infection.
That means nearly half of those who were infected did not know it. That is a recipe for disaster or in this case for HIV to continue to spread. Younger men and African-American gay men were least likely to know whether they were H.I.V. positive.
The study also found that one in five gay and bisexual men living in major U.S. cities is infected with H.I.V., the virus that leads to aids. This was a very thorough study, with 28,468 men approached, 12,325 were screened for participation in the survey at 626 venues in 21 cities. Of those who were screened, 11,074 (90%) were eligible for the survey. Of those who were eligible, 8,153 homosexual men from 21 metropolitan areas were determined to meet the criteria for the study.
Interesting study…. Sandi
